These witnesses embody YAHUAH’s enduring covenant testimony — His Word and His Spirit — revealed through His servants and fulfilled in YAHUSHA Ha’Mashyach.

I. The Vision of Zechariah — The Olive Trees and the Lampstand

Zechariah 4:11–14 — “Then answered I, and said unto him, What are these two olive trees upon the right side of the candlestick and upon the left side thereof? And I answered again, and said unto him, What be these two olive branches which through the two golden pipes empty the golden oil out of themselves? And he answered me and said, Knowest thou not what these be? And I said, No, my Adonai. Then said he, These are the two anointed ones, that stand by the Adonai of the whole earth.”

The vision shows a golden menorah (lampstand) supplied with oil directly from two living olive trees. The oil represents the continual flow of the Ruach HaQodesh (Holy Spirit), fueling YAHUAH’s light in the earth.

• Shenei bene ha-yitzhar (שְׁנֵי בְנֵי־הַיִּצְהָר) — “Two sons of fresh oil” (literally: two channels of anointing).
• Zayit (זַיִת) — Olive tree; symbol of Israel and of the Spirit’s supply (Jeremiah 11:16).
• Menorah (מְנוֹרָה) — Lampstand; symbol of the divine testimony (Exodus 25:31–40).

The two “sons of oil” stand in the presence of YAHUAH — representing His chosen instruments through whom divine light flows continually into His people.

II. Historical Context — Zerubbabel and Joshua the High Priest

In Zechariah’s day, the two anointed ones typified Joshua (Yehoshua) the High Priest and Zerubbabel the governor of Judah. Together they rebuilt the temple and restored worship after the Babylonian exile.

• Joshua — represented the priestly office, intercession and holiness (Zechariah 3).
• Zerubbabel — represented the kingly office, authority and governance (Haggai 2:21–23).

Through them YAHUAH declared: “Not by might, nor by power, but by My Spirit, saith YAHUAH Tz’vaoth.” (Zechariah 4:6)

Thus, the two offices — priesthood and kingship — flow together in prophetic anticipation of YAHUSHA, who perfectly unites both.

Revelation reuses Zechariah’s imagery to describe two end-time witnesses who stand before YAHUAH, declaring His Word in power. Their description mirrors Moses and Elijah — representing the Law and the Prophets, the Word and the Spirit.
